Artist's Statement
Believing that art should evoke the beauty and pleasure of natural forms, April Drew Foster strives to bring the joy of her artistic journey to her painting. Her portraits, landscapes, and still lifes are preserving memories of places and people in many collections in the US and Europe. April describes her style as softly realistic. Educated in a contemporary artistic environment with many abstract influences, she has never felt the need to forsake realism.
Growing up in La Jolla, California, April was inspired by her renowned architect father as well as a great high school art teacher. She received a BA in art at the University of California at Berkeley and her secondary teaching credential at Cal State University San Diego. In the 80’s she studied three years at Mission Renaissance in LA where she redirected her knowledge of classical art traditions.
Combining art and travel has been April’s greatest pleasure. Art workshops in Europe have taken her to France, Italy, England, Ireland, Spain and Portugal.
